Trump Meets Tech Leaders to Discuss Global Crisis: Here are the Results
A number of global technology leaders met with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday (29/09/2026). The agenda of the meeting addressed the developments in artificial intelligence (AI) amidst increasing concerns within the industry.
The meeting also served as a moment for the signing of an agreement regarding AI, which Trump described as being “morally binding”. He also added that the government is considering the formation of an oversight committee for the AI industry.
Furthermore, Trump emphasised the importance of self-regulation, which he believes is crucial for industry players to implement.
“There is a belief that there should be extraordinary self-regulation, and we automatically have regulations from the Department of Justice, the FBI, and all that. However, self-regulation is very important,” said Trump, as quoted from CNBC International on Wednesday (30/09/2026).
According to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, the agreement between technology leaders and the government was made voluntarily on behalf of the industry. The White House will subsequently play a role in guiding the direction of the industry’s development.
Meanwhile, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated that rules regarding the risks of AI development are still under discussion. Amodei, who had previously voiced concerns regarding the pace of AI development, emphasised the importance of cooperation in addressing these issues.
“We all need to work together to ensure we can win, and we can win safely. If we do it correctly, if we work together with the president and everyone here, then we can win safely,” explained Amodei.
In line with this, AMD CEO Lisa Su expressed her enthusiasm for the meeting. She noted a sense of optimism and shared responsibility to ensure that AI remains on a safe path.
“Ultimately, it is our responsibility to demonstrate the power of this technology while also ensuring that this technology is very safe,” said Lisa Su.
