Trump Making 'Final Decision' on Iran Deal
US President Donald Trump has stated he is making a final decision regarding a potential conflict with Iran, deciding whether to reach a peace agreement. “I will meet now in the Situation Room to make the final decision,” Trump said in a lengthy social media post, according to AFP on Friday, 29 May 2026.
Trump stressed Iran must agree to never possess nuclear weapons and reopen the Hormuz Strait shipping lanes. In the post, he also said Iran “will soon clear” mines in the Hormuz Strait and that the US naval blockade on Iranian ports “will be lifted”, allowing oil tankers and other vessels to resume operations.
However, it remains unclear whether Iran has agreed to these terms or if the US naval blockade has already been lifted before Trump’s final decision. Trump also stated Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles “will be removed by the United States… in coordination and close cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), then destroyed.”
The statement came after reports that Iran demanded financial compensation for the war and the White House proposed investment ideas. However, Trump insisted “no money will be transferred until further notice.” Trump added that only “trivial matters” had been agreed upon.
