Trump: Lebanon not included in two-week ceasefire agreement

Washington (ANTARA) - United States President Donald Trump, on Wednesday (8 April), stated that Lebanon is not included in the two-week ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran. “That is a separate clash,” Trump told PBS in a telephone interview when asked about Israel’s ongoing attacks on Lebanon. He added that Hezbollah is not part of the agreement and will “be dealt with as well”. Reports from Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency on the same day indicated that oil tanker shipping routes have been suspended through the Strait of Hormuz following Israel’s latest attacks on Lebanon. Iran is finalising preparations to launch a “preemptive operation” against military targets in Israel, following Israel’s “ceasefire violation” in Lebanon, according to Fars, citing security and military sources. Israeli fighter jets launched a series of airstrikes across Lebanon on Wednesday (8 April), killing at least 87 people and injuring 722 others, according to relevant officials, with densely populated areas in the capital Beirut being one of the most severely affected regions.
