Trump Lashes Out at Critics of Iran MoU: 'Fools!'
US President Donald Trump has responded sharply to criticism following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iran aimed at ending the war, calling his detractors ‘jealous, evil, or stupid’.
Trump faced a wave of criticism over concessions made to Tehran in the agreement signed on Wednesday (17/6), which seeks to conclude the Middle East conflict.
‘These fools, who think I haven’t been tough enough on Iran, even as the Stock Market hits an ALL-TIME HIGH and Oil prices are ’plummeting’, are jealous, evil, or just plain stupid. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!’ Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform, as reported by AFP on Thursday (18/6/2026).
The comments came after US media outlets widely criticised Trump over the Iran deal, arguing that pre-war objectives had been abandoned, Iran’s power had been strengthened, and hundreds of billions of dollars had been spent.
‘The White House agreed to this ceasefire extension which fails to meet any of its pre-war objectives, while granting massive financial concessions to Tehran,’ said US TV network MS NOW.
‘Now, the administration is desperately trying to deny it. Simply put, Trump has been played by Iran, and no one believes his attempts at a defence,’ the network added, according to AFP.
Leading US media outlet the Wall Street Journal described the deal as ‘widely seen as the biggest foreign policy gamble of the president’s second term,’ noting that Trump ‘will face pushback from Iran hawks who say the president gave far more than he got.’
Fox News, a channel usually sympathetic to Trump, quoted critics saying the agreement provides Iran with ‘enormous financial benefits’ without requiring the cessation of its nuclear programme.
Under the agreement, the United States will facilitate the release of US$300 billion in reconstruction funds to Iran, backed by regional nations.
‘President Donald Trump’s proposed Iran deal is drawing sharp criticism from some of his strongest supporters, who argue the agreement rewards Tehran before it agrees to fully dismantle its nuclear programme,’ Fox wrote.
