Trump Issues New Threat to Iran: Deal Or Be Leveled!
US President Donald Trump has issued a dire threat against Iran, demanding immediate action or the facing of fatal new consequences. According to a report by CNBC International, the open threat from the US leader was delivered on Sunday (17/05/2026).
This harsh statement was made via his social media platform amidst the deadlock in diplomatic channels between the two nations. “For Iran, the clock is ticking, and they had better move, FAST, or there will be nothing left of them. TIME IS VERY CRITICAL!” Trump stated in a post on Truth Social.
Despite issuing such an aggressive bluff, the property tycoon did not detail specific military actions or the exact consequences that would follow, nor did he specify what he expects Iran to do to avoid them.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have remained at a nadir since conflict erupted several months ago. The US and Iran have been in a stalemate regarding negotiations to end the war since a fragile ceasefire was reached in early April. Currently, the US continues to blockade Iranian ports, while Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of the conflict.
This threat from Joe Biden’s successor adds to a long list of controversial social media statements targeting his Middle Eastern adversary. Prior to the April ceasefire, he warned that entire civilisations would die and never rise again unless Iran surrendered to US demands. Furthermore, the American billionaire previously threatened to attack civilian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges in Iran, which many observers categorise as potential war crimes.
The impact of the escalating conflict is increasingly felt by the global community, particularly due to disruptions in global energy supply routes. The closure of the strait, a critical artery for oil, has caused economic chaos, leading to a global surge in oil prices and a spike in petrol prices in the US. According to recent data, the national average price for petrol in the US reached US$4.51 per gallon on Sunday, according to AAA reports.
At present, both parties remain entrenched in their respective positions at the negotiating table without concession. The US demands that Iran cancel its nuclear programme and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Conversely, Iran demands reparations for war damages, an end to the economic blockade, and an immediate cessation of all hostilities, including the conflict in Lebanon.
