Trump Irked by Netanyahu's Criticism of F-35 Sales to Turkiye

US President Donald Trump is reportedly angered by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s public criticism regarding the planned sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkiye, according to a report from Axios on Thursday. Two White House officials stated that no meeting has been scheduled, despite Netanyahu’s requests to visit Washington. One official noted that Trump was upset by Netanyahu’s remarks during a Fox News interview shortly before the US president attended a NATO summit in Ankara on 7-8 July. A second official suggested Trump believes Netanyahu “has no right” to interfere in the arms sale plan. The Israeli leader had reportedly been seeking a meeting with Trump for more than two weeks. He has visited the Oval Office six times since Trump returned to the presidency in January 2025. Israeli media had reported that Netanyahu planned to travel to Washington this weekend to attend the memorial service for late Senator Lindsey Graham and meet with Trump on Monday. However, the prime minister’s office confirmed on Thursday that the trip was cancelled after the memorial service was postponed. The reported snub comes amid heightened tensions between the Trump administration and Netanyahu’s government over the war with Iran. The report followed remarks on Wednesday by US Vice President JD Vance, who suggested that some members of the Israeli government were attempting to undermine Washington’s diplomatic efforts with Tehran in order to prolong the military campaign.
