US President Donald Trump confirmed on Tuesday that Iran shot down a ‘highly sophisticated’ Apache attack helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s success underscores how the country has maintained its air defence capabilities. “I was just informed by our great military that last night Iran shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote on social media. “There were two pilots involved, both survived and are unharmed. Nevertheless, the United States must, of course, respond,” Trump added. The fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran has been marred by fighting.
