Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The White House AI and Crypto Chief, David Sacks, announced his resignation from his position in an interview on Bloomberg Television on Thursday (26/3) local time. He stated that he had ended his service as a special government employee. Earlier this month, Sacks openly stated that the United States (US) should withdraw from the war in Iran. He is the first close associate of President Donald Trump in the administration to bluntly give such a recommendation. Sacks has been a prominent figure in the White House since Trump began his second term as president. Sacks is a well-known Silicon Valley investor and entrepreneur, as well as a partner at Craft Ventures, which he co-founded in 2017. He was appointed as the White House AI and Crypto Chief since December 2024. However, according to US rules, special government employees have a tenure limit of 130 days within a 12-month period. During his tenure as AI chief, Sacks led the easing of Biden-era restrictions on AI chip shipments to China. In his interview with Bloomberg, Sacks said he would continue to help advance the Trump AI policy framework released last week, quoted from Reuters, Friday (27/3/2026). After resigning from his position, Sacks will join President Donald Trump’s Council of Advisors for Science and Technology. The federal advisory committee consists of industry and academic experts. Sacks said that as co-chair of the body, he would provide recommendations on a wider range of technology issues beyond AI.
