Trump Holds Meeting to Discuss Large-Scale Attack on Iran
US President Donald Trump held a meeting in the White House Situation Room on Tuesday (14/7) to discuss a large-scale attack on Iran with a broader scope than the operations currently underway in the Strait of Hormuz region. According to an Axios report on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the matter, senior US officials attending the meeting included Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth. The meeting focused on new plans for strikes against strategic targets in Iran beyond the ongoing operations in the Strait of Hormuz, the sources told Axios. Since 8 July, the US military has launched several waves of attacks against Iran. US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated the strikes were a response to Iranian ‘interference’ with commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran retaliated by launching attacks on US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
