Trump Highlights Iran and Communism in America 250 Speech

President Donald Trump, during his America 250 speech on Friday night, said Iran wants to quickly reach a deal with Washington. Trump also mentioned that the United States had postponed negotiations with Tehran to allow the funeral procession of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to proceed. Speaking at Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence, Trump highlighted his country’s military record. “We built the most powerful and most formidable military. We won two world wars,” he said. Trump also claimed that the Cold War had consigned America’s enemies “to the ash heap of history.” Addressing recent conflicts, Trump said, “We defeated Venezuela in one day, and we hammered Iran. They want to make a deal so badly. They really want to make peace. We gave them a week off for the funeral because we are nice.” He also praised the 250th anniversary of American independence and declared that the United States is the oldest republic in the world. “At 250 years old, America is the oldest republic in the world. We are the freest nation in the world. We have the fairest and most enduring constitution in the world,” he said. Trump also claimed that no other country has given more to charity, ended more hunger, cured more disease, or done more for humanity than the United States. In his speech, Trump warned of a resurgent ideological threat at home. According to Trump, communism is a deadly threat to American freedom. “Communism is the greatest threat to our country, even more than World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, or the September 11 attacks,” he said. Trump asserted that the United States will never become a communist country. He then shifted to domestic politics, saying the Republican Party will only lose the midterm elections if it allows itself to lose. Trump added that eliminating the filibuster rule in the Senate and passing the ‘Save America Act’ would ensure the Republican Party ‘will not lose an election for 100 years.’
