WASHINGTON – Republika.co.id: US President Donald Trump announced on Monday (1 June 2026) that Israel’s planned attack on Beirut had been frozen following a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and indirect communications with Hezbollah through high-level representatives. However, Israeli airstrikes continue to be reported in parts of southern Lebanon. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated: ‘I have just had a very productive conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. No troops will move towards Beirut, and those previously en route have been ordered to return,’ according to Al Jazeera on Tuesday (2 June 2026). Trump added: ‘Through high-level representatives, I have had good communication with Hezbollah. They have agreed to a full ceasefire. Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel.’ Trump’s announcement came hours after the Israeli military issued a warning to all residents in the Dahiyeh area (southern Beirut suburbs) to evacuate immediately in preparation for the attack previously ordered by Netanyahu. In another post, Trump said talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran are ongoing and progressing rapidly. Details from Lebanon’s Washington embassy revealed that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has conveyed to Hezbollah the ongoing discussions aimed at de-escalating tensions. According to the embassy, Trump also contacted Lebanon’s US ambassador, Nada Maouad, informing her that Netanyahu had agreed to the proposed draft agreement.
