Trump: G7 Nations Ready to Engage in Securing the Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has said that G7 member countries are ready to send troops to help secure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. “They all want to do it. Everyone wants to be involved now, not when a war is going on,” Trump told reporters when asked about the situation in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday (17/6). Citing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump said that the United Kingdom is ready to participate in the security effort in the Strait of Hormuz. Japan has also offered its assistance, Trump said. On Sunday, Iran and the United States confirmed that the drafting of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been completed and the document is scheduled to be signed in Switzerland on 19 June. Under the MoU, both countries have 60 days to negotiate a final agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear programme and US sanctions.
