Trump Furious, Calling Netanyahu 'Crazy' Over Israeli Military Operations in Lebanon
US President Donald Trump has reportedly expressed fury towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Israel’s military operations in Lebanon. The confrontation occurred during a telephone conversation between the two leaders on Monday (1/6) local time.
According to reports from Axios, citing US officials, Trump’s anger stems from Israel’s military actions against Hezbollah militants in Lebanon. These operations are viewed as a significant risk that could derail ongoing US diplomatic negotiations with Iran and undermine efforts to maintain a fragile regional ceasefire.
“You are fucking crazy. What are you doing?” Trump reportedly exclaimed to Netanyahu upon learning of the military incursions. During the call, Trump also addressed the legal challenges facing Netanyahu, reminding the Prime Minister that he had openly defended him and sought to provide political support.
Trump had previously stated that Israel and Hezbollah had reached an agreement to cease hostilities. He further noted that discussions with Iran were continuing despite the deadlock caused by the Israeli strikes in Lebanon.
According to reports from AFP and Anadolu Agency, Trump posted on social media that Netanyahu had promised not to deploy troops to the southern outskirts of Beirut as previously threatened. He also indicated that Hezbollah had agreed to halt all shelling.
These developments follow reports from the Iranian news agency, Tasnim, stating that Tehran had suspended dialogue with mediators in protest of the expanded Israeli attacks on its ally, Hezbollah.
“I had a very productive call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu of Israel, and no troops will be going to Beirut, and any troops that were on their way have been sent back,” Trump wrote. He added that through high-ranking representatives, he had also engaged with Hezbollah, resulting in an agreement that all firing would cease, with neither side attacking the other.
Shortly thereafter, Trump posted separately, stating that negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are ongoing.
