Washington (ANTARA) - United States President Donald Trump stated on Thursday (26/3) that he would suspend the planned attack on Iran’s energy facilities for 10 days, claiming that talks between the two sides “are going very well”.

“At the request of the Iranian Government, please consider this statement as representing that I am suspending the period of destruction of the Energy Power Plant for 10 Days until Monday, 6 April 2026, at 20.00 Eastern Time,” Trump said on the social media platform Truth Social.

He also stated that talks are ongoing and, despite being marred by misleading statements from “fake news media”, the talks are going very well.

Indirect US-Iran talks are taking place through messages forwarded by Pakistan, said Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar in a social media post on Thursday.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Wednesday (25/3) that different messages have been exchanged between Iran and the US through an intermediary in recent days, while Tehran has not held talks with Washington since the US and Israel began a massive attack on Iran on 28 February.

Trump gave Tehran 48 hours on Saturday (21/3) to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning that if not, Washington could launch attacks on Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure.

Tehran responded by signalling it would launch retaliation across the region if the attack occurred.

On Monday (23/3), Trump said he had ordered the military to delay the attack on Iran’s power plants and energy facilities for five days after what he called “productive” talks with Iran, although Iran denied any such contact.
