Tokyo (ANTARA) - United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday (26/3) that he is extending the delay on plans for an attack against Iran’s energy infrastructure by 10 days until 6 April 2026.

That decision also effectively postpones the deadline given by Trump to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the same date.

Trump also wrote on social media that talks with Iran are “going very well”, even though Tehran rejected a US ceasefire proposal the previous day.

The extension, which according to Trump was requested by the Iranian government, follows his decision on Monday (23/3) to postpone an attack on Iran’s power plants for five days, after previously threatening to destroy them if Tehran did not reopen that important shipping route within 48 hours.

On Thursday, Trump stated that the 10-day postponement would run until 20:00 Washington time on 6 April 2026.

Since the US and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran on 28 February and Iran retaliated by attacking Israel and Gulf countries, that vital waterway for global oil and natural gas trade has largely been closed.
