Trump Extends Ceasefire but Maintains Blockade of Iranian Port
US President Donald Trump has extended the ceasefire with Iran indefinitely. At the same time, the US military continues to maintain the blockade of Iranian ports.
“I have directed our military to continue the blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able,” Trump said, as reported by detikNews on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
The US-Iran ceasefire first began on 7 April and was due to end today. However, Trump has decided to extend it while awaiting steps from the Iranian side.
“Therefore, it will extend the ceasefire until their proposal is submitted and discussions are resolved one way or another,” Trump explained.
Trump also highlighted the divided state of the Iranian government. The US, he said, is still waiting for Iran to participate in follow-up negotiations in Pakistan.
“Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is very divided, which is not surprising, and at the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, we have been asked to delay our attack on the country of Iran until the leaders and their representatives can submit a unified proposal,” Trump stated.
