Trump Expresses Disappointment with NATO Allies Amid Ankara Summit

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday expressed disappointment with NATO allies over the conflict in Iran as he arrived in Ankara, the capital of Turkiye, to attend the alliance’s summit. Answering reporters’ questions before a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Presidential Complex, Trump sharply criticised European allies. In the meeting, Erdogan said Turkiye was making every effort to stabilise US-Iran relations. The reluctance of European nations to send warships to support US efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz drew criticism from Trump, who harshly accused European allies of profiting from American security guarantees while refusing to assist in the war in Iran.
