Trump Expresses Desire for Third Term, Acknowledges Constitutional Hurdle

US President Donald Trump has said he very much wants to run for a third presidential term in the 2028 US presidential election, but acknowledged that the law and constitution of his country prohibit it.

“You know the law is very strict about that. I would very much like to run, but the law is very strict. Everyone asks me. In fact, tonight they were shouting at the event, 2028! Everyone wants me to do it, but the rules are very strict,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday (11/8).

The US will elect a new president in 2028. Trump has not ruled out the possibility of running for a third term, saying there are ways to do it.

However, the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution limits the number of presidential terms in the country to just two. Trump is currently serving his second term.

Previously, Donald Trump was reported to prefer US Vice President James David Vance over US Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the Republican Party’s candidate for the 2028 election.

According to the report, Trump currently views both Vance and Rubio as potential candidates to lead the Republican Party. However, Trump’s support for Rubio is reported to have waned.

Trump’s attention has turned to how Vance maintains his own approach amid a challenging political environment while continuing to push the administration’s agenda, the report added.

Nevertheless, Trump is known for frequently changing his views on people, the report revealed.

Besides Vance and Rubio, Trump has also mentioned the names of his cabinet members as potential candidates to lead the Republican Party. They are US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and former US Secretary of the Interior Kristi Noem.
