Trump Discusses Iran Ceasefire with Mohammed bin Salman

US President Donald Trump reportedly spoke by phone with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) on Wednesday (1/4) local time to discuss the US-Israel war against Iran and opportunities for a ceasefire.

An Axios report, citing two sources familiar with the conversation, stated that Trump explained to MBS about “talks on the possibility of a ceasefire”.

The White House has yet to respond to Anadolu Agency’s request for confirmation regarding the report.

Amid the escalation of the conflict, the United States is said to have sent a proposal to Iran through Pakistan to end the war. The proposal reportedly includes steps related to Tehran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, as well as maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

However, Iran denies any direct negotiations with Washington. Tehran emphasises that communication is only through intermediaries and describes the US proposal as “excessive and unrealistic.”

Since 28 February, the US and Israel have launched airstrikes on Iranian territory. Iranian authorities report more than 1,340 people killed due to the attacks.

In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf countries hosting US military assets.

According to US government data, at least 13 American military personnel have been killed since the conflict began. The war has also triggered a surge in global energy prices and disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for world oil distribution.
