Trump Denies US Ammunition Shortage, Threatens Leakers with Prison

United States President Donald Trump has asserted that his country’s ammunition supplies are at very high levels. The statement was issued to rebut reports of weapons stock shortages amid ongoing military tensions.

Writing on Truth Social on Thursday (6/8), Trump stated that the US has abundant ammunition reserves, particularly for certain types. He also stressed that production continues to meet national defence needs.

“Large quantities of ammunition continue to be produced and delivered to the US as needed,” Trump wrote. In addition to denying the shortage claims, Trump issued a stern warning to those leaking internal cabinet information, describing them as traitors who face lengthy prison sentences.

Earlier, The Washington Post reported that Trump had sought clarification from Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding missile shortages during a cabinet meeting at Camp David earlier this week. However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt promptly denied the report, stating the information was untrue.

The ammunition shortage issue has emerged amid the high intensity of weapons use in the US military campaign against Iran. In late July, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimated the US had expended more than 1,500 Patriot missiles and around 200 THAAD interceptor missiles, raising concerns about a significant stock deficit.

To address the military cost burden, the White House submitted a request for additional funding to Congress of 87.6 billion US dollars (approximately Rp1,400 trillion) on 24 June. Of that total, 67.15 billion US dollars was allocated specifically to the Pentagon to support military operations and defence equipment procurement.
