Donald Trump has been declared healthy but must adhere to a strict diet. The presidential doctor stated he is in good health but needs to lose weight. ‘President Trump remains in good health, with strong heart, lung, neurological, and overall physical function,’ said Trump’s doctor, US Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, in a memo released on Friday (29 May) local time, following the 79-year-old’s check-up. ‘Preventive counselling has been provided, including dietary guidance, recommendations for low-dose aspirin, increased physical activity, and sustained weight loss,’ he added, as reported by AFP on Saturday (30 May). The three-page memo outlines Trump’s physical examination and diagnostic tests conducted at Walter Reed Medical Center near Washington on Tuesday. Barbabella stated Trump is ‘fully capable of performing all duties as Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.’ The president, who will turn 80 next month, takes three medications: two for cholesterol control and aspirin for ‘heart disease prevention.’ At 191cm tall, Trump’s weight has increased to 108kg from the previously publicised 101.6kg during his last annual medical exam in April last year. This was Trump’s third medical check-up since returning to office last year, following heightened speculation about his health, including hand bruising and appearing drowsy during meetings. ‘The hand examination revealed ecchymosis (bruising), consistent with mild soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking in the context of aspirin use for heart disease prevention,’ the memo stated regarding Trump’s bruised hand.
