Trump criticises Iran's response to US proposal to end the war
Washington (ANTARA) - United States President Donald Trump has voiced his frustration over Iran’s response to the latest peace proposal submitted by his side to end the war.
“I just read the response from what is so-called the ‘representative’ of Iran. I don’t like it – ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!” Trump stated on the Truth Social platform on Sunday.
The statement came hours after Iranian state media reported that Tehran had conveyed its response to the US peace proposal via mediator Pakistan.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s response to the latest US proposal to end the war was sent to the Pakistani mediator today,” according to the IRNA news agency.
Iran’s national television, IRIB, revealed that the response focuses on ending the war initiated by the US and Israel on all fronts, particularly in Lebanon, and ensuring maritime security.
Despite a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon since 17 April, which has been extended until mid-May, Israeli Zionist forces continue to launch attacks on Lebanon and exchange fire with Hezbollah daily.
Tensions in the region escalated after the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on 28 February, prompting retaliatory strikes from Tehran against Israel and US allies in the region.
The war has also led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was successfully achieved on 8 April through Pakistani mediation, but subsequent negotiations in Islamabad failed to reach a long-term agreement.
That ceasefire was later extended indefinitely by President Trump, providing an opportunity to end the war permanently through diplomacy.
