Trump Contacts Netanyahu Immediately After Israel Attacked, Urges No Retaliation Against Iran

According to the news site Axios, citing a US official, President Donald Trump has held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The discussion took place shortly after Trump called for Iran to cease its missile launches towards Israel and return to the negotiating table.

Trump also emphasised that he would contact Netanyahu to request that Israel refrain from launching a retaliatory strike against Tehran. In an interview with Fox News on Sunday (6/6/2026), Trump stated, “I told Iran, you have launched missiles and that is enough. Come back to the negotiating table and reach a deal,” as reported by Al Jazeera on Monday (7/6/2026).

Trump revealed that he had previously anticipated an agreement with Iran would be announced on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. However, the situation shifted after Israel announced it had faced Iranian missile attacks on Sunday night.

Speaking to Axios, Trump reaffirmed that a deal with Iran would be a positive step and that both parties are currently very close to reaching a final agreement. Consequently, he does not want the process to fail due to heightened tensions between Iran and Israel. Trump added that both Israel and Iran have already experienced the impact of the recent attacks, and therefore, the Middle East region does not require further military escalation.
