Trump considers joint venture with Iran over Strait of Hormuz tolls

Washington (ANTARA) - United States President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday (8/4) that he is considering establishing a joint venture with Iran to collect fees from ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

“We are thinking about doing it in the form of a joint venture,” Trump told ABC News. “That is a way to secure it, while also protecting it from many other parties. It is a beautiful thing,” he said.

On Tuesday (7/4) evening local time, Trump wrote on Truth Social that the US could earn a large amount of money by helping to manage the traffic buildup in the Strait of Hormuz.

“We will load various types of supplies, and remain ‘in that area’ to ensure everything runs smoothly. I feel confident it will happen,” he stated.

On Monday (6/4), Trump proposed that Washington should collect fees from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasising that reopening the waterway must be part of any agreement to end the war with Iran.

“What if we collect fees?” Trump said during a White House press conference on Monday. “I prefer doing that rather than letting them (the Iranian side) do it,” he added.
