Trump Considers Continuing Limited Strikes on Iran
Washington (ANTARA) - United States President Donald Trump is considering continuing limited strikes against Iran in addition to the naval blockade, which has been announced, in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter, resuming strikes against Iran remains one of the options being considered by Trump several hours after talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Sunday (12/4).
Additionally, Trump is expected to continue full-scale bombing strikes, although according to those sources, this is unlikely to occur due to the risk of further destabilisation in the region and Trump’s unwillingness to engage in prolonged military conflicts.
Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei, stated that a common understanding has been reached on a number of issues, but the positions of Iran and the US remain different on two or three key points.
Trump then announced that his side would begin blockading all ships attempting to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz. He also instructed the US Navy to track and intercept all ships paying Iran to pass through the strait.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has vowed to initiate a blockade against all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports on Monday at 14:00 GMT or 21:00 WIB.
