Trump Confident He Can Take Over Cuba as He Wishes
Cuba has become a target for United States President Donald Trump to take over. Cuba is now experiencing blackouts after its oil supply has been blocked by the US.
According to detikFinance, Trump confidently stated that taking over Cuba would be an honour.
“You know, throughout my life, I have always heard about the United States and Cuba, when will the United States get the honour to take over Cuba? That is a great honour,” Trump said during his address from the Oval Room of the White House, cited by CNN on Tuesday, 17 June 2026.
He then emphasised that the US would not need to struggle to take over Cuba. However, Trump has not yet disclosed what steps he would take.
“Taking over Cuba in any form, yes, taking over Cuba, I mean, whether I liberate it, take it, I think I can do whatever I want with it,” he said.
Cuba is now experiencing a power outage or blackout after the US blockaded oil shipments, which are the main source of electricity generation. The oil crisis has caused fuel prices in the country to skyrocket. Petrol per litre can reach US$9 or equivalent to approximately Rp 152,973 (based on an exchange rate of Rp 16,997 per US dollar) on the informal market.
“Officials in the US government must be very pleased with the losses suffered by every Cuban family,” said Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío, responding to the power outage problem occurring in Cuba.
