Trump Condemns Iran's Attack on Singaporean Ship in Strait of Hormuz as 'Foolish Violation'
United States President Donald Trump has condemned an Iranian attack on a Singaporean ship in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the drone strike as a foolish violation of the ceasefire agreement. “One of the drones scored a direct hit on the upper deck of a very large, very expensive cargo ship, while three other drones were shot down,” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform. His remarks referred to the latest Iranian attack on a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, which he firmly labelled a foolish violation. “Clearly, this is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement,” Trump said. A container ship was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday local time. The incident forced the United Nations to suspend efforts to evacuate sailors or crew from ships trapped in the strategic waterway amid the raging Middle East war. Leading US media outlets, including the New York Times, reported that Iran had attacked a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has not yet claimed the attack, but the Iranian body regulating traffic in the waterway issued a warning after the incident occurred. Four sources identified the targeted vessel as the Singapore-flagged ship Ever Lovely. A security source suggested the ship was likely targeted by a drone attack. “Any transit through routes outside the framework established by the PGSA will not be covered by the safe passage guarantee,” stated the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), the Iranian body regulating passage through the Strait of Hormuz, via social media platform X.
