US President Donald Trump has claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping has agreed not to send weapons to Iran. Trump stated that he received assurances from Xi Jinping.

“They have agreed not to send weapons to Iran. President Xi will give me a warm hug when I arrive there in a few weeks,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, referring to the planned summit meeting on 14-15 May with Xi in Beijing, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

During a Fox Business event, Trump said that Xi had “basically” promised not to send weapons.

“I heard that China is giving weapons to, I mean—you see it everywhere—to Iran,” Trump said.

“And I wrote him a letter asking him not to do that, and he replied to my letter basically saying that he is not doing that,” he added.

The conflict in the Middle East is known to have heightened tensions between the US and China. The Trump-Xi summit was originally scheduled for March but was postponed due to Trump’s decision to launch a war.

China has accused the US of engaging in “dangerous and irresponsible” behaviour over the blockade of Iran’s port in the Strait of Hormuz. Xi has even vowed that China will play a “constructive role” in promoting peace in the Middle East.

In his Truth Social post, Trump emphasised that “China is very pleased that I have permanently opened the Strait of Hormuz. I did it for them too—and for the world.”

In the interview, Trump was also asked about reports of China allegedly launching a massive cyber attack on the FBI. Regarding this, Trump did not directly confirm the report but said, “We did it to them. They did it to us.”

“China is China,” he said. “It’s never easy, but we have done well in dealing with China.”

Trump stated that he is the “toughest” person in dealing with China.
