US President Donald Trump has stated that the war against Iran could end before the midterm elections are held on 3 November. Trump made this assertion a day after predicting that the war against Tehran would end precisely after the midterms have taken place.

“I do not know if they (Iran) will be able to hold out. However, this matter will be resolved after the election. Or perhaps even sooner,” Trump said during a telephone interview with NewsNation, as reported by the Middle East Monitor on Friday (11/9/2026).

Trump alluded to the increasing US economic pressure on Iran in the context of his statements on Thursday (10/9). A day earlier, on Wednesday (9/9), Trump stated that the war against Iran would “end soon” after the midterms.

“I believe the war will end shortly after the midterms because they cannot hold out any longer,” he told reporters before departing for Dallas, Texas.

Trump’s statements contradict reports from the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), which noted that senior White House advisors have privately warned that the war could continue for the remainder of Trump’s term.

The war against Iran, which began in late February, has entered its seventh month and shows no signs of ending. At least 1s8 US military personnel have been killed due to Iranian retaliatory attacks in the Middle East region.

The protracted conflict has sparked concerns regarding military resources and disruptions to global energy markets. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), average petrol prices in the US reached US$ 4.22 per gallon on Wednesday (9/9), an increase from US$ 4.01 a month earlier and US$ 3.19 a year ago.

Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to achieve a swift resolution while continuing to support a broader economic campaign against Iran. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described this strategy, dubbed “Operation Economic Outcast”, as an alternative to large-scale combat operations.

In the same interview, Trump denied reports suggesting that recent Iranian retaliatory attacks on US bases in Jordan had damaged American military aircraft in the region.

“No… Not at all. There is no damage. There is nothing,” he asserted.

Previously, reports from the prominent US media outlet CBS News, citing sources familiar with the situation at the Jordanian base, stated that at least eight US F-15 fighter jets sustained minor damage due to Iranian retaliatory strikes against the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.
