Trump Claims US Has Three Strategies for Dealing with Iran, Including Escalation

Washington - President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the United States has three ways to deal with Iran, including escalation and economic pressure. “We have three strategies. Doing what I’m doing now … hitting them very hard … Or beating them economically, which we are already doing anyway,” Trump said in an interview with US radio and TV host Wayne Allyn Root. On Sunday, Trump acknowledged that his administration had reduced efforts to reach a deal with Iran and was proceeding cautiously, hoping that economic pressure would have an impact. Earlier in August, Trump announced that he had called off a strike against Iran given the possibility of a peace deal that would include the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and an agreement on the nuclear programme. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated that Iran and Oman had agreed on the geographical details of a shipping route for vessels transiting the strait.
