Trump Claims US Has Successfully Secured Control Over Greenland

US President Donald Trump claimed on Friday that Washington has reached an agreement with Denmark regarding Greenland. The deal will provide the US with “permanent control over security and all other necessities.”

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, “Under my direction, we are working with representatives from Denmark and Greenland to ensure that the US will FOREVER have the full capability to do whatever is necessary in Greenland.”

He added that parties opposed to the US would be prohibited from establishing military bases or stationing personnel in Greenland unless they obtain written permission from the US.

Trump stated that plans to build a significant US military presence in various suitable areas of Greenland will commence shortly, adding that there are many potential locations.

Denmark and Greenland issued a joint statement on Friday indicating that an agreement with the US will be signed during the UN General Assembly session next week.

The statement added that the agreement remains subject to parliamentary approval, both in Nuuk and Copenhagen.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said the deal “recognises the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom as well as the right of the people of Greenland to self-determination.”

Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen stated that the agreement with the US “strengthens” the security of the territory.
