US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is clearing sea mines from the Strait of Hormuz with US assistance. The mine-clearing operation is underway after Iran announced the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

“Iran, with US assistance, has cleared, or is clearing, all sea mines!” Trump stated on his social media platform Truth Social, as quoted by AFP on Friday (17/4/2026).

In his statement, Trump welcomed Iran’s announcement of fully opening the Strait of Hormuz during the ceasefire in Lebanon. However, Trump said the US blockade of Iranian ports continues.

“THANK YOU!” Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social, stating that Iran has announced the route “FULLY OPEN AND READY TO BE FULLY TRAVERSED.”

A few minutes later, Trump posted another message indicating that the US blockade against Iran remains in effect. This measure will be maintained until the agreement with Iran is 100 percent complete.

“The naval blockade will remain fully in effect regarding Iran, only, until our deal with Iran is 100% done.”

“This process should go very quickly because most points have already been negotiated,” Trump said, using his characteristic all-caps style.

On Thursday, Trump stated that a peace agreement with Iran is “very close,” despite talks led by Vice President JD Vance in Pakistan over the weekend yielding no breakthroughs.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had previously announced on Friday that the strait, which is vital for global oil and other commodity trade, would remain “fully open” for as long as the ceasefire in the Middle East holds.
