US President Donald Trump has stated that negotiations with Iran to end the joint American-Israeli attacks are making progress. However, he continues to warn that the country’s critical energy infrastructure will be destroyed if talks do not yield results soon.

“If for any reason a deal is not reached quickly, although it is very likely to be, and if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened immediately for business, then we will end our silence in Iran by blowing up and completely destroying all their power plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalination plants!),” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday (30/3/2026).

Despite issuing this warning, he stated that serious discussions are underway with Iran’s new and more reasonable regime.

Trump also told Bloomberg that Iran wants to resolve the conflict and described the war as going exceptionally well.

Earlier, on Monday (30/3), Iran stated there are no direct negotiations with the United States and that the latest contacts were merely messages delivered through intermediaries.

Countries in the region have sought to act as mediators to reach an agreement between the two sides, with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stating that Islamabad is willing to host talks.

On Sunday (29/3), Trump encouraged diplomatic efforts, with intermediaries including Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt involved in indirect contacts between Washington and Tehran. The indirect talks conducted through Pakistani envoys, Trump added, show progress.

“A deal can be reached quite quickly,” Trump said.

Many high-ranking Iranian officials have been killed, including among the 1,340 people who died in the US and Israeli airstrikes against Iran on 28 February. One of them was the then Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. These counterattacks have caused casualties and infrastructure damage, while also disrupting global markets and aviation.
