Trump claims oil prices will fall if Iran removes "nuclear threat"
Washington — US President Donald Trump has claimed that oil prices will decline rapidly once the “nuclear threat” from Iran is neutralised.
Previously, in an interview with CNN, Trump urged the public not to worry about rising petrol prices amid Middle East tensions.
“Oil prices in the short term, which will fall quickly when Iran’s nuclear threat ends, are a very small price for the US and the world for safety and peace,” Trump said on his Truth Social media platform.
Oil prices surged on Monday morning amid concerns about prolonged disruptions to shipments from the Middle East.
Brent crude futures briefly reached $118 per barrel (approximately 2 million rupiah), the highest level in the past four years.
The total death toll from the attacks, according to Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, has now exceeded 1,300 people.
In response, Iran attacked several US military facilities in the Middle East and Israeli territory.
The US and Israel described the initiation of these military operations as a preemptive strike against alleged threats posed by Tehran’s nuclear programme. However, they are no longer concealing their desire to see a change in power in Iran.
