United States (US) President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s military capabilities have been severely weakened by war. This claim brushes aside criticism from the US Democratic Party regarding his administration’s handling of the Iran conflict.

“The war has weakened Iran!” Trump said in a statement via social media platform Truth Social, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Saturday (20/6/2026).

“Iran no longer has an Air Force, a Navy, anti-aircraft equipment, radar, or almost anything else,” the US President claimed.

In his statement, Trump also refuted remarks by Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who said Trump was using various bargaining chips to secure a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a US-Iran peace deal out of desperation.

“We are not meeting out of desperation, Iran is the desperate one. They are FINISHED! We will continue for 60 days. They will not get any money, not even ten cents!” he stated.

Trump also criticised the US Democratic Party, which has argued that Iran is in a stronger position than it was several months ago.

“Yet the Democrats say that Iran is better off now than four months ago. Can you imagine getting away with saying that??? How stupid are some people???” Trump said, attacking the Democratic Party.

On Wednesday evening (17/6), Trump electronically signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending the war between the US, Israel, and Iran. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also signed the MoU remotely.

Under the MoU, Washington and Tehran are expected to conduct further negotiations over 60 days, with the possibility of an extension, in an effort to reach a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme and international sanctions.

Under the agreement, Iran must immediately reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, while the US lifts its naval blockade.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also signed the MoU as a mediator.
