US President Donald Trump has stated that a framework for an agreement with Iran will soon be announced. The deal is said to reopen the Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes and serve as a foundation for new peace talks in the Middle East.

Citing Yahoo Finance, the statement has renewed market hopes for a potential easing of conflicts that have shaken the global economy over recent months.

In a Truth Social post on Saturday (23 May 2026) local time, Trump said the framework is pending finalisation between the US, Iran, and other nations. He added that final details of the agreement would be announced shortly.

Although Iran and Israel have not directly confirmed Trump’s statement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Washington and Tehran are in the final stages of drafting a memorandum of understanding. Baghaei indicated other issues beyond ending the war would be discussed once security stabilises.

“Whether we discuss nuclear issues or other agreed matters within 30 or 60 days is a separate matter. At this stage, our main focus is ending the war,” Baghaei said, according to Iranian state media.

Trump said he had met with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Jordan, Pakistan, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the deal.

The developments in Iran negotiations have drawn global market attention as the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategic oil transit routes.

International benchmark Brent crude futures closed above $100 per barrel on Friday (22 May 2026), while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) settled above $96 per barrel.

Oil prices had dipped on Thursday (21 May 2026) after Iranian media reported Washington and Tehran had largely agreed on a plan including a full ceasefire and reopening of Strait of Hormuz navigation. Other issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme, are planned for later negotiation stages.
