Trump Claims Iran Has Undergone Regime Change

US President Donald Trump has claimed that the US-Israel war has achieved a regime change in Iran. Trump assured that he would “make a deal” with Iran. “I think we will make a deal with them, quite sure… but we have achieved regime change,” Trump said to reporters aboard the presidential plane Air Force One, referring to the number of Iranian leaders killed in the war over the past month. “We are dealing with people different from anyone we have dealt with before. This is a completely different group of people. So I will consider that as regime change,” Trump stated, as reported by AFP news agency on Monday (30/3/2026). Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who fell in an airstrike at the start of the war on 28 February, has been appointed as the new Supreme Leader or the third Supreme Leader in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Since the conflict began with the US-Israel attack on Iran, Tehran has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas passes. This closure has caused global oil prices to surge. However, Trump said that aid would soon come in the form of concessions from Iran, starting with the passage of several oil tankers through the major waterway. “I think they are giving us, as a sign of respect, 20 oil tankers, large tankers full of oil that will pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said. He added that the delivery would “be done starting tomorrow morning, over the next few days.”
