Washington (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump has stated that Iran is “almost giving up” on its plans to develop nuclear weapons, which has been one of the primary objectives of his administration during the conflict with Tehran, now entering its eighth month.

Trump also noted that oil prices are currently decreasing after a surge that began when Israel and the US launched attacks against Iran on 28 February.

“Oil prices are down. Currently, oil prices are lower, even lower than during the Biden administration,” Trump told reporters as he left the White House for a rally in Ohio on Saturday.

Trump assessed that the Joe Biden administration did nothing to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

“By the way, Iran, as you know, is almost giving up on its plans to possess nuclear weapons,” Trump claimed.

Iran has consistently denied allegations from the US and Israel regarding efforts to develop nuclear weapons.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed this position during his visit to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly last month.

Pezeshkian stated that Iran does not desire nuclear weapons due to religious prohibitions. He also offered to reduce Iran’s enriched uranium levels through an internationally monitored process.

However, Iran maintains that it will not sacrifice its nuclear programme for peaceful purposes or make structural concessions before the US lifts economic sanctions against Tehran.
