Trump Claims Iran Has Accepted US Demands, Mentions Plan to Seize Oil

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has accepted most of Washington’s demands to end the war, although it is unclear whether the two sides are truly negotiating. Trump stated that out of 15 demands submitted to Tehran, most have been fulfilled. “They have given us most of the points. Why not?” Trump told reporters on Air Force One on Sunday (30/3/2026), quoted from Bloomberg. He added that the US would still submit some additional demands, but did not detail what concessions Iran has made. Tehran, in response, has put forward five counter-conditions, including maintaining sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Quoted from the Financial Times, Trump also expressed his desire to control Iran’s oil sources—a move that could worsen conflict escalation. “Honestly, my favourite thing is taking the oil in Iran, but some people in the US question that,” Trump said. Such a step is considered high-risk because it would require a large military operation, including invasion and occupation of Iran’s main export centre on Kharg Island, which is also the location of Iran’s naval base. Trump acknowledged that if the US takes over Kharg Island, American forces would have to remain in the area for a considerable time. On the other hand, US policy appears inconsistent. The government is pushing for ceasefire talks, but at the same time increasing its military presence in the Middle East region. “We have been very successful in those negotiations,” Trump said. “But you never know with Iran, because we negotiate with them, and then we always have to attack them,” he continued.
