Trump Claims Iran Agreed to 'Almost Everything' in Negotiations

US President Donald Trump has stated that negotiations with Iran are progressing, claiming Tehran has agreed to almost all of Washington’s key demands. The claim was made during an interview with US media outlet CNBC on Thursday local time. “We are negotiating… I think they have agreed to almost everything we need,” Trump said in the interview. There has been no immediate response from Iran regarding Trump’s latest claim. In the CNBC interview, Trump reiterated that the US is not seeking regime change in Iran. He stated that Washington’s goal remains preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. “We are not looking for regime change. I want something very simple: they cannot have nuclear weapons,” he stressed. Trump also defended US military actions against Iran, claiming that Tehran has been “totally defeated militarily.” “I defeated them militarily. They are totally defeated militarily. They have some missiles left, we could destroy them too, and I hit them very hard three times last week because they sent drones to a ship,” Trump said. Further negotiations between the US and Iran have been taking place recently, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar. These talks aim to permanently end the war in the Middle East. On Thursday local time, mediators from Pakistan and Qatar announced that the next round of US-Iran negotiations would be held “as soon as possible” after Tehran completes the funeral ceremonies for its former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The funeral ceremonies for Khamenei, who was killed in an initial US-Israeli strike on 28 February, are scheduled to take place on a large scale in Iran from 4 July to 9 July.
