Trump Claims He Is Iran's Number One Assassination Target
United States President Donald Trump has claimed that he is the number one assassination target for Iran. The statement was made amidst escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. “They have leaders, but they are gone… They have other leaders in line. They could be gone too. Who knows?” Trump said during a press conference in Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday (8/7). “I could also be gone, because I am their number one target.” Trump, however, asserted that he does not care about the threat, feeling he is merely carrying out his duties as head of state. He even calculated that his chance of being assassinated is 5.2%. “The life of a president is very dangerous with a 5.2% risk. Compare that to a race car driver or a bull rider, whose risk is only one-tenth of 1%. A 5.2% figure for a president means you are threatened with not surviving,” Trump added. To date, Trump has survived three actual assassination attempts. The first incident occurred during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July 2024, where his right ear was grazed by a bullet. The second attempt took place in September of the same year at Trump’s golf club in Florida. Most recently, a shooting targeted him while he was attending a White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in April 2026. Suspects in the series of attacks have been arrested and charged with the attempted assassination of the US President. Furthermore, in June 2026, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reported foiling a planned attack on a UFC event at the White House. The Department of Justice subsequently categorised the plot as the latest assassination attempt targeting Trump.
