Trump claims he is Iran's number one assassination target

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed he is likely the number one assassination target for Iran. “They have leaders, but they are gone… They have a line of other leaders. They could be gone too. Who knows?” Trump said during a press conference in Ankara. “I could also be gone, because I am their number one target.” Trump added that he does not care if he is targeted for assassination by Iran, because he is just doing his job. Trump also said his chance of being assassinated is 5.2 percent. “The life of a president is very dangerous with a 5.2 percent risk. Compare that to a racing driver or a bull rider whose risk is only one-tenth of 1 percent. A 5.2 percent figure for a president means you are threatened with not surviving,” Trump said. Trump survived three assassination attempts, the first occurring during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July 2024, when Trump was shot in the ear. The second attempt occurred in September of the same year at Trump’s golf club in Florida. Finally, in April 2026, a shooting occurred during a White House Correspondents’ Association dinner attended by Trump. The suspect was later charged with multiple counts, including the attempted assassination of the US president. Subsequently, in June 2026, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation reported the uncovering of a plot targeting a UFC event at the White House. The US Department of Justice later designated the plot as a new assassination attempt against Trump.
