Trump Claims Control of Strait of Hormuz, Millions of Barrels of Oil Flowing
United States (US) President Donald Trump has said that the Strait of Hormuz is now open. Trump claimed that millions of barrels of oil continue to flow through the strategic waterway for global energy supply, even though the conflict with Iran has not ended.
“The strait is open. The Strait of Hormuz is open. We are in control, and we are carrying out a blockade,” Trump said while speaking at the White House, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Friday (28/8/2026).
“There are many ships passing through. Millions of barrels of oil leave the strait every day,” the US President said in a statement on Thursday (27/8) local time.
Trump said that US forces have cleared the vital waterway of mines and continue to monitor maritime activity closely.
“We have the best minesweepers in the world. They are underwater minesweepers, and we have completely cleared the strait of mines,” he claimed.
Furthermore, Trump claimed that US forces are able to detect ships attempting to lay mines and take immediate action.
“We monitor every inch of the strait, and if a ship enters carrying mines, we see it and remove it. We have already removed two of them,” the US President said.
According to Trump, the US recently escorted ships through the Strait of Hormuz. “Last night, we escorted 24 ships through the strait. We are constantly escorting ships through it,” he said.
Finally, Trump asserted that Iran cannot transport goods through the waterway due to the US maritime blockade.
“Iran gets nothing. Nothing can pass. Not a single ship has managed to get through,” he concluded.
