Trump Cancels Iran Strike, Claims Peace Deal Reached
WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump said he has cancelled plans for a US strike and bombing of Iran. He stated this was after a draft peace agreement was approved by the “highest level” of Iran’s leadership and several countries in the region.
“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iran’s leadership and approved, I, as President of the United States, have cancelled the scheduled attack and bombing of Iran tonight,” he wrote on Truth Social on Friday.
“The discussions and final points, both in concept and detail, have been approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others,” he said.
“The naval blockade will remain in full effect until this transaction is completed – the time and place of signing will be announced shortly.”
On Thursday evening, Trump had boasted that he would launch a massive attack on Iran that night. He also threatened to seize Iran’s oil infrastructure.
“At some point in the not-too-distant future, we will take over Kharg Island and other oil infrastructure points and take full control of their Oil and Gas Market, as we did with Venezuela,” he said.
Trump also repeated his claim that Iran’s military capabilities have been destroyed.
The United States launched another air strike against Iran on Wednesday night. Tehran subsequently launched retaliatory attacks against US assets in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the “unlawful and criminal” US attacks, saying they effectively rendered the 8 April ceasefire “meaningless”.
Authorities in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan reported missile interceptions, and Jordan temporarily closed its airspace.
Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said an 11-year-old girl suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene following the Iranian attack.
Iran’s joint military command warned it would fire on any vessel attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been largely closed for months.
