Trump Calls US-Iran Ceasefire a Momentum to Replenish Ammunition Stocks
US President Donald Trump has stated that the ceasefire agreement between his country and Iran is a positive step. According to him, this period of pause in hostilities provides a crucial opportunity for the US military to replenish ammunition stocks and strengthen its weaponry.
“I think the ceasefire is a good thing because we are now fully stocked. We have a lot of ammunition. We have so much of everything, much stronger than four or five weeks ago. So, we are using this opportunity to replenish our stocks,” Trump said in an interview with CNBC.
Nevertheless, Trump also recognises that the Iranian side is likely doing something similar, using the ceasefire period to bolster their military supplies.
Tensions are predicted to peak again in the near future. On Monday local time, Trump emphasised that it is highly unlikely he will extend the ceasefire if a permanent agreement is not reached by Wednesday night.
He even issued a stern warning that many bombs will explode again after the ceasefire expires. This statement signals the US’s readiness to escalate militarily if diplomacy reaches a deadlock.
Open conflict broke out on 28 February when the United States and Israel launched airstrikes on several targets in Iranian territory, causing infrastructure damage and civilian casualties. The tensions temporarily eased after Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire on 7 April.
However, diplomatic efforts so far have not yielded significant results. Follow-up negotiations held in Islamabad, Pakistan, ended without a firm agreement. Amid this impasse, the US is reportedly beginning to impose a blockade on Iran’s major ports.
To date, the international community continues to monitor developments in the Middle East, given that the ceasefire deadline on Wednesday night will be a determining point for the direction of the conflict between the two countries.
