Trump Calls Prince Andrew's Arrest Embarrassing: 'Very Bad for the Royal Family'

United States President Donald Trump has spoken out regarding the arrest of former British prince Andrew by British police, calling the arrest embarrassing.

“I think it’s embarrassing,” Trump said, as reported by AFP on Friday (20/2/2026).

He also described the arrest as deeply saddening, adding that it would have a negative impact on the royal family.

“I think it’s very sad. I think it’s very bad for the royal family. It’s very, very sad,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

Prince Andrew Arrested

British police arrested Andrew on Thursday (19/2) local time. Andrew was detained at his residence in the Norfolk area of eastern England.

British police stated, as reported by the BBC and AFP, that the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, as he is now known, was carried out in connection with misconduct in public office during his tenure as a British trade envoy.

“As part of an investigation, today (19/2) we arrested a man in his 60s from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office,” Thames Valley Police said in a statement, without naming the arrested suspect.

“The man is currently in police custody,” Thames Valley Police said in their statement. “We will not be naming the man who has been arrested, in accordance with national guidelines,” the police statement added.

In addition to making the arrest, police also carried out a number of searches connected to Andrew.
