Trump Called Prince MBS Before Cancelling Attack on Iran

US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Saudi Arabian Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) to discuss developments in the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Sunday (2/8). This call is believed to have taken place before Trump cancelled his planned attack on Iran.

Quoting the SPA report, Prince MBS emphasised the ‘need to prioritise dialogue to ease tensions.’ He also urged all parties to strive for a ceasefire to pave the way for a diplomatic solution. Prince MBS stressed that a diplomatic solution must ‘yield positive results in maintaining regional security and stability and preventing a wider conflict’.

Both leaders also reviewed bilateral cooperation between the two nations. Trump announced on Sunday that the United States and Israel have agreed to postpone new attacks against Iran, on the condition that an agreement to end the months-long conflict can be reached as soon as possible.

Trump stated that the US ‘is ready to fight the Islamic Republic of Iran,’ but added that Tehran and other Middle Eastern nations had requested him to delay new attacks. ‘Based on this request, I agree, for the sake of the future of the WORLD and also for the successful and prosperous survival of Iran, to cancel the attack, provided a DEAL can be made immediately,’ Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
