Britain is weighing the dispatch of two of its aircraft carriers to the Middle East as the war between Israel and the United States against Iran continues. However, United States President Donald Trump has boasted that Washington does not need Britain’s help to win the war.

According to detikNews, on Sunday (8 March 2026), Trump was seen repeatedly criticising British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Trump said Starmer had helped ‘damage’ the historically close relationship between the two countries, which have long been allies.

The comments came after London said it would block the initial use of a British base by the US to support an attack on Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he would remember the lack of British support during the conflict with Iran.

‘This is fine, Prime Minister Starmer, we no longer need them— but we will remember it. We do not need people who join a war after we win!’ he added.

The post appeared after the UK Ministry of Defence stated that it was preparing the carrier HMS Prince of Wales for deployment. However, according to a British official, no final decision had yet been made on whether the carrier would be deployed to the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Starmer defended his decision not to allow US forces to use a British base to support the early attack on Iran. Starmer said it was necessary to ensure any military action was legal and well-planned.

It is known that Starmer earlier this year also criticised Trump’s wish to buy Greenland. He described Trump’s comments that European troops were avoiding frontline combat in Afghanistan as deeply troubling.
