Trump: Board of Peace Will One Day Oversee the United Nations
US President Donald Trump has said that the Board of Peace (BoP) will one day be able to oversee the United Nations.
Trump expressed this aspiration at the inaugural Board of Peace summit held at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington on Thursday, 19 February 2026. Trump said he hoped the UN would endure and grow stronger.
“One day, I won’t be here. The United Nations will still be here and I think it will be much stronger,” Trump said.
“And the Board of Peace will almost oversee the United Nations and ensure the organisation functions as it should. But we will strengthen the United Nations,” he added.
Trump said the UN needed support, both in terms of facility operations and funding.
“We will ensure the United Nations keeps running… I’ve been saying it for years, the United Nations has tremendous potential,” he said.
The US President expressed confidence that the organisation would ultimately “fulfil its potential.”
In January, Trump announced the establishment of the Board of Peace and invited approximately 50 countries to join.
At the inaugural Gaza Board of Peace summit in Washington DC, President Prabowo attended at the invitation of President Trump, who served as host and initiator of the Board of Peace. Prabowo was set to deliver a national statement at the meeting.
Several other member state leaders were also in attendance, including those from Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Hungary, Pakistan, Paraguay, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Egypt.
Representatives from Belarus, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, and Israel were also present.
The event programme comprised an opening address by President Trump, presentations by key Board of Peace figures, national statements from member state leaders, and concluded with a vote and the adoption of a resolution.
