Trump Bans ‘AI’, Forcing Everyone to Use Its Replacement
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – US President Donald Trump has announced plans to ban the term “artificial intelligence”, or AI, in official government documents. He wants it replaced with “super intelligence”, or SI, which he considers more appropriate and accurate.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the term AI was inaccurate and would be phased out.
“Before long, we will officially BAN the term ‘AI/Artificial Intelligence’ in all related documents and elsewhere because of its inaccuracy,” Trump wrote.
The move follows an executive order issued on 29 September 2026, directing all government agencies to begin using “Super Intelligence” and the abbreviation SI in correspondence, on websites and in policy documents.
Trump said the name AI gives the impression that the technology is not real or is merely an imitation, even as its capabilities become more advanced and influential. He also questioned why the media had not adopted his new term.
“When will The Wall Street Journal start changing AI, a very bad and inaccurate name, to SI, Super Intelligence, a name almost everyone is already using or will soon be using?”
Trump’s order is already being implemented by the US government. All new documents concerning AI technology must now use the term “super intelligence” or SI. Government agencies have also begun using Trump’s term on their websites and in official communications.
The decision has prompted mixed reactions. Some see it as a name change without technical significance, while supporters say it is a way to recognise technological progress and underline the United States’ role in the field.
